Remember years ago a Navy(?) flight deck crewman was sucked into a jet engine(actual filmed) that survived due to protective helmet he was wearing. .................................... drill sgt.

Think meat grinder for human sized objects.
Here’s the aircraft carrier accident with A-6 Intruder

Sucked in like a piece of paper litter. Dat's not gonna buff out. Many hazards on a Navy carrier deck. There is a YT video of flight ops at night in the rain. A pilot posted it. Those on the flight deck perform their respective jobs regardless of the weather conditions.

I was fortunate enough once in Ga to be hanging out with a Ga ANG F-15 unit once and escorted the planes to the end of the runway for a "last chance" inspection just before takeoff. I was instructed to stay away from the aircraft, but my dumb ass started walking around the front of the F15 the pilot started motioning me away and 2 crew members grabbed me pulled me back to the truck and told me stay put and don't go near the aircraft. They said the suction of the engine could pull me in from 10-15 ft easily and I could feel the air blowing around me pulling me that way, but it wasn't near sufficient enough to pull me in plus the F15 engine inlets are rather high up, but I didn't want to take a chance.

Thats sad the ground crew got killed, but goes to show you have to be alert!

I worked on the electronics of the A-6 for almost 5 years. It was a beast. I had to be on standby for flight operations to go up the the aircraft that was turning and burning and climb up the access ladder to assist the B/N with whatever problem he was having with the electronic equipment before flight. You had to take everything out of your pockets, put them in your cover (hat) and leave it with another maintenance guy before approaching the ladder. The A-6 sucked a lot of air and the CO wouldn't be real happy if you caused an engine to be R&R'd due to FOD (foreign object damage).

Had a neighbor many years ago who was a Navy F9F crew chief on carriers during the Korean War. He told me once that there was an engine adjustment that could only be done while the engine was running and by crawling in through one of the intakes. He said there was a screen in front of the engine which prevented you from being sucked into it, but you could be pinned to the screen if someone upped the throttle, which apparently was a common prank at that time.

Worked as a helicopter mechanic for 40 plus years. The amount of air that goes through a turbine engine is impressive. Even the little Allison C-20, 30, 47 series, which in the C-47 variant produced just 650hp, can produce enough airflow to suck a shop towel out of your hand. We gave those engine intakes the respect they deserved.

Yes indeed, the amount of airflow from the Eagles engines from 15 ft was also impressive just @ idle.

I was super cautious around the intakes of the A-6 but, I was more cautious around the ejection seats. Before I climbed into a cockpit to run up the electronics, I finger-f____d all seven safety pins on the ejection seat to make sure all were in place. When I was in Iwakuni MCAS Japan, a guy in a nearby squadron ejected himself into the top of a hanger. It wasn't a pretty sight. I also did not ever walk under a tail hook.

Why do people do stupid things around jets? Watch the second clip in this video. How can anyone explain this?
