Metal Business Card Holder Stops Bullet Aimed at Florida Sheriff's Deputy

LACOOCHEE, Fla. — Authorities say a gun shot aimed at a sheriff's deputy was stopped by a metal business card holder the deputy had in his breast pocket.

Investigators in Pasco County, Fla., were looking for the suspect Friday.

Two deputies responded to a burglary alarm Thursday night at a store in the southwest Florida town of Lacoochee.

Authorities say the suspect fired several shots from inside as the deputies were approaching.

Deputy Jeffrey Chandler was hit in the chest. Officials say the bullet was slowed after passing through the store's front glass window and metal shield that covered the glass.

Chandler was wearing a bulletproof vest, but the bullet was stopped by the card holder.
