Went to the WWII museum today. First time in a long time. So different than last time, btw. Well worth going back if you haven't been lately!

Anyway I noticed the Japanese Model 38 and Model 44. Same model #'s as the russians and both carbines. Any connection? was there a reason for the model # similarities?

It’s Complicated. From watching way to much info on WWII & guns in general, the Japs used the year of the emperor's reign to asign model no. There is a flower emblem on all imperial jap weapons from WWII. But how do you get to model 99? Mail Call w/ R.Lee Ermey had an episode on this. The Arisaka guys would know more.
