What are y'all using for the primitive for season? I've got access to a small spot up in Monroe, no shots longer than 100 yards.

I love that set up but I can't find an encore anywhere. What suppressor are you running?

Hybrid… same set up would work just as good with a h/r, cva ect… cva has a nice little threaded 20” 44mag that would make a great host

Encore in 35 Whelen. If I had to buy something new tomorrow, it would be a CVA Scout in 350 Legend. Both the rifle and ammo are very affordable and available.

My FIL just bought my son one of these 350 L for the upcoming season. We haven’t got a chance to shoot it yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

The 45/70 is very accurate out of a CVA to 150 yards actually the 35 whelen a bit better. I have the Optima scout .35 and optima elite in 45/70. Not versed on the 350, but it also has great reviews.

45/70 ammo is cheaper and more available.

I had some .44 subsonics worked up a while ago when when I was using a threaded Ruger 77/44 and a mgm encore 160 barrel… had about 1” expansion subsonic and very quiet… just figured I’d stick with the 45/70… hard to beat a 405gr hammer…

Btw all subsonic expandable are “maker bullets”

This is them on side of the 45-70 subsoncis

Just my opinion, which is worth what you paid for it....

If you want to go primitive, then you should go primitive.
Muzzle loader flintlock or percussion rifle, pistol, shotgun, loose powder, no pellets, no scope .

That was the original intent of the primitive weapon season. They should break up the season for "primitive and modern primitive"

I honestly dont know why they even keep it around at all. It should just be bow or rifle season at this point. Ive kept my old muzzle loader in the back of the safe for the possible out of state hunts i may end up making at some point. Been shooting an h&r .444 for 10 plus years now. Just picked up a 35 whelen this year and ill probably stick the 444 in the back beside the muzzle loader for the same reason. Many states allow straight wall cartridges where the whelen wouldnt be applicable.
