Question about hunting deer & hogs with shotgun

Years ago, in Louisiana, you could only hunt deer, etc., with a shotgun. My question is, using 00 or 000 buckshot, what would be the maximum effective range for hunting medium game in La. While I'm at it, what shot size and range would there be for wild Turkey? Thanks

Is there a hog season? I was under the impression you could hunt them anytime.

I think hogs are OK during any hunting season but not otherwise.

They are a nuisance that can be hunted all year if I am not mistaken.

The place I hunt deer at in Livingston is called "Hogbranch" . Notorious for wild hogs, obviously.I've decided if its late in my hunt and I havnt seen any deer worth shooting i'ma get me a big hog.

I have never hunted a day in my life but think killing a hog wouldn't be so bad. A friend killed a 168 lb sow up in St Francisville.

In general, about 35 yards with 00 buckshot. However, you really have to pattern your shotgun with different loads to see how they perform at the various distances in between and select the one that patterns the best. YMMV...
