I have two shotguns (Remington 1100 20 gauge & Browning A5 Magnum 12 gauge) that spent a year or so in a back room at my parents house and they were completely neglected during this time, I recently went home to pick them up for hunting season. The shotguns were laid in an open foam case and the exposed sides were rusted with some minor to fair pitting on both receivers and barrels. Both of these guns have been used hard and have had mild films of rust on them before, so I didn't think much of it. I just closed the case and brought it home. I took them out and started working on them last week and after days of soaking with CLP and trying to rub the rust off they still look much worse than the last time I saw them. This is where they are at now:
Its really not that brown in normal light but I guess the flash shows all the imperfections in the finish...
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to at least remove the rust? I really don't want to refinish them unless all hope is lost.
Thanks
