The South Louisiana High Power Club will host a Garand-Springfield Match per the program below.
Come out and shoot your Garand, you can sleep late, go to church, and still come shoot with us. If you need any help with rifles, equipment, or ammunition contact me. This is not a clinic, but there will be experienced shooters to help if needed.

If you are interested in shooting and do not have ammunition, come to the match anyway. For $1.00 per round (cheaper than CMP) we will have Lake City 30-06 Garand ammo available. This is the ammo made to shoot in the Garand. $1.00 per round for enough ammo for the match.

Where can I find info about the high power matches? Is it certain calibers/types of rifles?

The regular monthly high power match consist of the following course of fire:
10 Shots offhand (standing) without a sling and single load in a time period of 10 minutes
10 shots in a sitting position with a sling in 60 seconds. There is a mandatory magazine change during the string.
10 shots in a prone position with a sling in 70 seconds. There is a mandatory magazine change during the string.
20 shots in prone with a sling rounds are loaded one at a time, total time is 20 minutes

The most popular rifle is the AR 15 in the "service rifle" class configuration. You can use a UBR stock, quad rail, better barrel, and a 4.5 power scope.
The other class is match rifle. There are few limitations on these rifles and sights.

No muzzle brakes are allowed.

The video below is how we shoot at Palo Alto in Donaldsonville. The matches in Gonzales are shot from the same firing point using reduced targets for prone.
