that goofy looking little hat is NOT the same hat the Cav wore back in the 'Nam. It looks like they cut half the brim off; neutered it.

    This is what I remember:

Officers and NCOs in leadership positions in that cavalry outfit at Ft. Carson wore Stetsons at particular times. They looked good.

At least they did when my son was assigned there in the late '90s.

Well, after that tool Shinseki forced us into the black beret because his son couldn't pass ranger school who knows what they'd actually do.

I'll be out about then. Of course, I'm deployed under a cav unit right now, so I can wear the stetson. (spurs too)

My son was in a Cav Squadron a while back at Camp Carson. Can all the soldiers wear them or just the "leaders"?

I would think a Stetson would be more of a PITA than the Ridgeway cap we wore when I was in.

Stetson reminds me of my grandfather, he had two stetsons, his daily one he always wore outside, and his good one he wore to town (Which looked the same but was newer). :)

All troopers can, but there are certian requirements first. I'm not up to speed on exactly what they are, so I won't pretend to know the reg, but I can tell you that a combat deployment under a Cav unit qualifies you.
