They are useful for people who work or travel places that dont allow even knives much less concealed handguns. Last time i went into a courtroom i couldn't even bring a pocket knife. But my pen was perfectly acceptable. DisneyLand, they had security guys going through everyone's bags. Signs said no knives, guns, etc. But the pen didn't get a second glance.

Disneyland does allow small pocketknives.... I carried a 3 1/2 inch (closed) Case stockman and a 2 7/8 inch Case Peanut and the guards said they were small enough and ok.

Just got this one today. It’s by fisher and uses the space pen cartridges. I believe it was $20 and is all metal.

The Police Pro pens were designed to be used as an impact tool. I have a Fisher Military pen on the way as well.

Once upon a time long ago I carried a handgun, slapstick, kubaton, auto knife and a nightstick on my person with a model 37 Ithaca in the vehicle.
    Back to the tactical pens.

I didn't use a "tactical pen", but I used a good, strong pen to write tickets. Also used an aluminum ticket book holder. If a violator turns on you while writing a ticket, you basically have a defensive weapon in each hand to fend him off and create space.

    Define awful.

They don't open in your pocket, Fisher space pen refills do not leak, and they are smaller than most click pens.

I like clicky pens. Pens that are not clicky are, by nature of not being clicky, awful. Boom, logic. LOL

I too only use semi-automatic assault pens. If I can't deploy my tactical inscription device with one hand, it's worthless. In today's 360 degree battlespace, maintaining situational awareness while taking notes is critical. Taking two hands to make ready to write could be just the edge the enemy needs. Not today, ISIS. Click Click Boom.

Don't forget carry options when choosing your Dynamic Inscription System. I exclusively wear 5.11 Tactical Polo shirts, because they are easily the most Operator of all men's casualwear, but mainly because they are issued and required. They feature two rapid deployment writing system holsters on the left sleeve, allowing multiple carry options because two is one and one is none. You can also vary your loadout to suit your theater of operations. For example, when conducting firearms instruction activities, I supplement my aforementioned Free Tactical Bic with a SHARPIE to circle your misses and clearly mark your laughably poor POST Score.

Downside to the 5.11 polo is if your primary hand is injured and you just have to make a note of the fact that yes, it really hurts, you cannot easily draw with your support hand.
