The FBI has a downloadable form FD-258 in several locations. Can this be downloaded and printed for a form 1? If so, do the lines need to actually be blue or does it just need to be the applicant version?

This file card (blue) is used for civil submissions to the FBI pertaining to individuals applying for criminal justice positions.

Not a direct answer, but might be useful: if you get your fingerprints digitized, you can now submit a Form 1 completely electronically. It's much easier and faster.

I used Printscan and went to the UPS store to get the scan. I've used the prints 4 times and no problems. Two form 4s, a Form 1, and the brace thing. All good.

If you're only going to file one or two, using SS's F1 service is the easiest way to go.

SS will NOT send you your .eft (digital print) file even though they have it. Reason being is they can charge $40 for a set of print cards.

To go digital without getting off the couch if they have your prints on file already, you can order completed print cards from SS for $40 and then mail those in to have them scanned for another $65.

What's kinda dirty is that SS has been charging $15 for completed print cards forever up until this new brace rule got pushed through, then the cost went to $40 overnight. Supply and demand I guess, but... still kinda dirty.

If you consider the digital prints cost $60-$105 depending on which way you wanna go, the breakeven on the SS Form 1 service seems to be at ~2 filings, so if you're gonna do two or more it makes more sense to get your own set of digital prints that you can use forever.

He charges $20 but the program is free if you want to compile it and run it yourself in linux. And setting up a linux virtual machine isn't tough.

I gave in. I looked at the PrintScan website and there was a location around where I would be working today. So I paid Nation Gun Trusts their fee and they called and set up an appointment for today at one of their non-ups locations. They had some issues, my appointment didn't show in their system and they couldn't pull it up, and had to call PrintScan to update their system and it took me 40 minutes to get out of there. Their site says to expect an email with the file in 1 to 3 business days. They must have been slow because I got it an hour or so later.
