Years ago, I read several novels written by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. - ( to name a couple ... SLAUGHTER HOUSE FIVE , CAT'S CRADLE ...). He was a WWII vet & POW, in Dresden, during the fire-bombing. That experience lead to his writing of Slaughter House. Altho I didn't/don't agree with many of his political stances, I still appreciate his brilliant off-the-nine-dots-insights & satirical wit.
In 1961, he penned a short story entitled "HARRISON BERGERON" - a ?parody/prophecy? of what the "ELITISTS" have envisioned for us peons. Max - 6-7 minute read. I highly recommend it.
The opening lines :
" ...THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren't only equal
before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter
than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was
stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the
211th, 212th, and 213 th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing
vigilance of agents of the UNITED STATES HANDICAPPER GENERAL."
