For those unfortunate bastards like myself who have to work in the elements, what type of base layer do you use for cold, windy weather? I'm replacing my current mediocre set, which is Magellan (3.0 I think?). Wanting to upgrade to something a little better quality.

I just ordered a set of these to try out.

i like firstlite, with their merino wool for base layer (top, bottom, sock, neck and head), then add your our layer

The main thing that concerns me with those, and a lot of other brands actually, is the big elastic waistband. It may be a non issue with the higher quality brands, but I have had issues in the past with stretching in the waistbands. Have you had this issue?

So far no issue for the base layer, going into 3rd year with them.

    Kuiu merino wool
    First Lite merino wool
    Smart wool

Personally I prefer Kuiu 120 or 145 merino
