I just have a dual grit stone.. and for finish honing I have an insalator tip from a tig gun.. But any piece of ceramic will work for that..

My knives are always sharp enough to shave.. You dont have to have some expensive stone or 15 expensive stones.. One single stone and the knowledge of how to use it and you are set...

This norton 220/1000 stone will be perfect.. 220 is enough grit to get the nicks and chips out of your blade... and 1000 is smooth enough to hone it up nicely..

That stone is capable of creating a pretty sharp knife.. Then if you want you hit it across a piece of ceramic (or a 4000 grit stone if you want) and you have yourself a nasty sharp killing machine...:D

I like the Lansky system. What's nice about it is that you pick the correct degree of bevel for the type of blade you are sharpening.
When you go back to resharpen it takes just a few strokes to get it back to a razor sharp edge.
    I love it.
You can probably find it cheaper than in the link I posted. This link was the first that I came across.

Norton 1000, then 4000, then 8000, then leather strop. I can split air. Overkill I know but their already set up for woodworking tools so why not. Nicks come out with DMT extra course diamond plate.

Thats the warthog you all speak of?

I would be interested to hear from soneone who has used both this and a lansky (or similiar) system. I am in the market for a good sharpener and would be very interested.

I was gonna get a lansky or gatco(sp) diamond sharpener. Good, tried and true systems which last for ever.

That's it. I have it, a Lansky and a Lansky-like Smiths and a Smith's pull through with carbide and ceramic. I use the Warthog almost exclusively now that all my knives are well sharpened I use it to touch them up. My pocket knives are shaving sharp now and I can keep them that way. I never could before.
