So I found this guy sitting in a pawn shop. The serial number starts 651xxx dates to about 1913. They were asking $900, but when I looked at it, the mag tube is in pretty bad shape, and there is NO blue on it anywhere. I expressed these concerns and picked it up for $600. Has anyone come across one like this? Also, it's missing the butt plate, so I would like to get a replacement, and honestly, I'll probably look into doing a full restore. Any and all info is welcome, being this is my first lever gun and honestly the oldest I own.

Not every old gun is collectable, but you might check with some Win forums to see what you have. If you restore it, you might be making a $10,000 rifle into a $500 rifle.

Right, I mainly picked it up because it's a solid gun. It already has had some modifications to it, so I don't think restoring it would hurt. I wouldn't be selling it. It's mine and is going to remain that way, so a restoration wouldn't hurt in my opinion. Thanks for the info!

Nice rifle. I have decided to sell my Winchester. Its from 1939 (I was told). Do you know how I would go about finding the value? I know the price can vary and I don't want to ask too much and I really don't want to ask too little. I know pistols and their value but I am clueless with old rifles.

What's the first 3-digits of the serial number, and is it 6 or 7 numbers long. Look up the value and determine what condition its in. Has it been restored or is it original? Then try to find what others are selling them for and go off that.
