I drove all day today with a friend of mine all over the city. We drove into areas that I would not have been caught dead in, pre-Katrina.

As many of you know, the city is changing.

ALOT of new young hipsters, hippies, professionals etc. Economically a good thing, but a BAD thing as far as guns are concerned IMO.

Most of these new people are coming from CA, NY, FL, Northeast etc.

There is a massive billion dollar Bio-District project underway. Thousands upon thousands of new jobs; A lot of the Bio-professionals that will take these jobs will be highly educated from MD, Wash DC, NY, NJ, CA, and other blue states as well as ALOT of foreigners.

I know, I worked with these types for years; Very liberal, hate guns, and think the South is filled with stupid people.

It may take some time, years in fact, but I see one day Louisianans having to fight for our 2A rights because of what New Orleans may become economically.

These people will get into the local Governments, and reek havoc on anything that isn't in alignment with there secular utopian agenda.

Again, a great thing economically, but we need to really start educating people on what the 2A is really about.

I had to educate some of my friends the other day...smart people, just not engaged. More worried about not being able to shoot ducks more than anything.

I could be totally off the mark, but I don't think so. We really need to also have kids involved in shooting sports because this is where it will come to a end. I'm sure they are currently being bombarded in school about how guns are evil, and should be eliminated from society.

Don't think it could happen here? Today, maybe not...15 yrs....its possible.

Look what is happening in the blue states. There is a lot of pro gun people in these states.

Their local governments are overrun with left wing loons. Wasn't like that in some of these states 15-20 yrs ago.

Just thinking out loud after my drive in the city today.

    Ramble over.......:D

I see it becoming more of a "Cook county" if things move in that direction rather than leading the state.

Thankfully we've taken steps to protect ourselves against that future. The recent change in the second amendment has made any changes like that much less likely to occur and I'm glad it was voted in.

Louisiana is much bigger than just New Orleans. The By Water district and the Marginy has definitely changed. A Lot of hipsters but much of the rest of the state is still republican.

I grew up in Lakeview. Was there for 35 years. Went back for a wedding at St Dominic two years ago. Walked across the street to the Walgreens, and saw people (yuppies, hipsters, whatever), that were never there before Katrina.

A stretch indeed, but I am starting to think a representative democracy is no longer going to protect any traditionalist ideals.

Dallas, TX is encountering the same problem as N.O., and there are concerns that the traditionally "red" state may start to turn purple if a significant number of blue-staters start moving there looking for jobs.

Well Austin is pretty liberal, but Texas is a big state, it will take more than u think to go blue.

A lot of areas of NOLA that are being populated by evil hipsters and liberals also used to be wastelands and ghettos. You said yourself before Katrina you wouldn't be caught dead in those areas. Sooo...you'd really rather ghettos than cleaned up areas with hipsters living there?

And if everyone in the ghetto was voting D and the population density decreased, isn't it a net win?

I really don't know there never was and never will be any thing in the ghettos and wastelands of New Orleans that would cause me to go there. Is a hipster any thing but a locust they have destroyed they homes with liberalism and now move some where else

It's a little more than that. You have a valid point, but the few(with money or more education), that decide to re-inhabit a crappy neighborhood which displaces zombies or traditionalists, shouldn't have such a profound instantaneous influence like they do. And I know, money is power, and power means influence. But I sometimes wonder if this isn't diabolically planned. Tin foil aside!

Not saying that at all. Just pointed out would could be coming down the pipe. It isn't just about wind chimes and incense with these people.

How many of "these people" do you know? I have a LOT of friends that would be considered liberal that live in the areas you're talking about. Their views on guns range from "don't give a **** either way" to "please help me pick out a gun and teach me how to use it". The majority of them are not naive to their surroundings and still have a sense of self preservation. Even the oblivious ones don't care either way.

There's not much political activism in New Orleans on either side of the fence. Most people just wanna party and do their thing and could care less about what other people do.

Sounds crazy; but I believe what you are stating! It's playing out in too many places.

And if you don't believe that, just ask the life-long residents of Seattle, Washington. They'll quickly tell you what effect the influx of Californians has had on their state.

I'm just saying it's funny that with one breath y'all admit they are cleaning up bad areas and rejuvinating the economy, and with the next breath saying they are ruining the city.

New Orleans is and always has been a very left leaning city. It won't change anything at a state level.
