What is the registration he notes?

My son was asked on simple traffic stop could he produce a bill of sale for his weapon (and if not the officer might need to confiscate the gun), he noted the bos was at his home and would be happy to have the officer follow him and get it retrieved by his Dad. Called me and officer spoke with me and said he should always carry the bos. I asked if that was a legal requirement and he gave phone back to my son, no ticket just drove away.

Yeah, that's dumb. Another good reason for me to stay out of NOLA 99% of the year.

He pauses when he speaks way too often, like he's getting winded from just talking. But he brings up a good point towards the end. Not to challenge any type of mis-treatment with the officer, handle any complaints at court etc, not with the officer.

MANY years ago , the BRCP taught the concealed carry course and the Instructor told us that you should always be able to produce a bill of sale for your weapon or it could be confiscated . He said it was rarely done but it was an option if the LEO wanted to be a dick . I ain't bullshitting you . It was Bobby Font . Many of you know him .

You mean all this in New Orleans, where the mayor (Who last I heard was in Prison) tried to confiscate the peoples guns after Katrina? Wonder what they would do with me if I got pulled over and could only produce my Alabama carry licence which is good in Louisiana?

1.) There is no registration requirement in LA (we all know that.) It is troubling that this man seems not to.
2.) You don't need to carry a receipt or bill of sale with you because:
a.) there is no law that says you need to, and
b.) someone stopped by an LEO does not have to prove he is not in violation of the law. The burden is on the state, not the individual.
Such a confiscation would be a violation of the 4th amendment, and is illegal.

p.s. How do you get a receipt/bos for a gun that was given to you as a gift, or which you inherited?;)
