If you're running low on boutique beef jerky from a neighboring state, want to stock up on amazon tasers and plate carriers but don't have internet access, or need your pocketknife's edge ground into an epileptic zigzag for cheap, guns shows are definitely worth it.Are either of them worth going to?
Gun show value is in the eye of the beholder. I've been going since there were gun shows at what is now the Pontiff Park, formerly Metairie Playground, circa 1960. I like to trade, and can usually find something of interest. Granted, most stuff is overpriced, but you can often find things not generally available, like some handloading powders, primers and 16 gauge shotshells. Are either of them worth going to? I haven't been in years, the last one being in Kenner. I couldn't get past the overwhelming stench of roasted candied nuts, much less the tables full of overpriced guns and ammo.
Now that was funny..... niceIf you're running low on boutique beef jerky from a neighboring state, want to stock up on amazon tasers and plate carriers but don't have internet access, or need your pocketknife's edge ground into an epileptic zigzag for cheap, guns shows are definitely worth it.
If you're looking to buy or sell guns and ammo for anything close to market value, I'd pass.
If you just want to fondle some steel and play the "count the fat guys in cargo pants, hiking boots, and t-shirts with eagles on them" game, then it's a fun way to burn an afternoon for the sake of having something to do.
Haven't hunted in decades, so seasons are not a problem. As far as deals go, you just need to know what you are looking at and for. Many table holders are not dealers, and some of them bring guns for friends. A lot of people walking around with their own guns expect to get dealer prices.I'd go to the Gonzales gun show but they can't seem to ever not schedule it on opening weekend of regular gun deer season, sooooo........, not gonna.
The deals to be had at gun shows are the people walking around with guns to sell or trade after they have been offered pawnbroker prices for their firearms by the dealers.
