I'm figuring on going out in public with my Pirogue and doing some fishing at City Park Lake. Just thought I'd ask for any input on where I should try. If I can survive the physical torcher of paddling and keep my balance enough to cast I thought I would try these spots in red (aside from the spot at the beach). I figured I could jig around the pylons that support the overpass. I know we used to catch a lot of Sacalait like that on Whiskey Bay.

Suggestions? Yes I will have a life preserver.

Don't turn over, I think they had something on the news the other day about a big gator in there.

I don't think the gator is that big, yet, maybe 6 feet. If he's fished Whiskey Bay, he laughs at 6 footers.

I do remember LSU science majors who did experiments and tests on the lakes saying they'd never eat from them. Of course, that was a while back, and Barack fixed everything, right?

I suggest you don't eat what you catch. I know people do eat from there, but I wouldn't.

That's all anyone ever says but I've never seen any hard data suggesting nor signs posted out there advising not to.

There was a Mercury issue a while back. And, when I went to LSU, some people used the lakes for gathering samples for tests and such. Their comments were that they would NEVER eat anything from those lakes.
I do not know if Mercury goes away and I do not think there has been anything major to change the cleanliness of the lakes in the past 40 years.
If you want to paddle in your canoe, the lakes should be fine. If you want to fish and eat, there are better places not far away, but I do not know of any good canoe and fish places nearby.

Think about it . The lakes are surrounded by residential areas , heavily traveled streets , etc . Nearly EVERYTHING in that area drains to the lakes . You know what kind of chemicals people put on their lawns . You see what is on the roadways .
    You make the call .

Hey, that's not a very republican way of thinking.

None of that stuff is supposed to hurt anything...

There is a do not eat advisory for Capitol Lake.
I think the consensus for University/City Park Lake is you can eat but don't eat too much. So, if it was the only fishing for 1000 miles, maybe. But, since there are much better waters less than an hour away, I'll pass on the questionable nutritional value of the fish from there.

    just found this: http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/office...5/Other_Chemical_Advisories_Complete_List.pdf

Says there is a do not eat advisory on Capitol Lake, but that was from 1983 and it was reviewed in 1994.

Dug a little more on the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals under their Environmental Epidemiology/Toxicology section and that link above is still the most current advisories for all of Louisiana waterways.

Ended up at Greenwood Lake in Baker. Didn't stay long as the wind was whipping me around the whole lake. Here are some pictures.
