To most people a Zombie is not a young black girl. It is a fictional monster. Also used by many in gun and survival circles to refer to any mass hoard trying to do you harm. Killing Zombies is also a way to avoid any moral issue when discussing the act of killing as they are already dead.

From what i get out of it is zombies are in fact referring to the undead of the movies, but those talking about them don't actually believe (I hope) the dead are going to burst from their graves and eat us all rather it is just a fun way to go about training for a TEOTWAWKI situation. This situation could be massive solar flares knocking out America's infrastructure for months leading to temporary WROL or a smaller scale Katrina type of event that leads to looting and the need to defend your home/community. There are also a few nerds out there that aren't actually preparing for anything but rather just taking part in a continuation of Magic the Gathering and what-not and they are obvious stockpiling such thigs as decorative katanas and deactivated grenades.
