...why I bought my wife a gun.....

savage 110E - good?
I wouldn't hesitate. Savage is a good gun, especially with the accutrigger, accurate out of the box is a good description. Leupy is known for good glass and damn good warranty as well. -

AR Build Step 1: Planning
Oh yeah, I second the motion for a mid-length gas system, it does cut down on the options for uppers, but it is worth it IMHO. The question no one has asked yet is, "What is the intended use of the rifle?" CQB drills, target shooting, home defense, etc. -

The last time I checked, it is legal to have your guns shipped directly to you, otherwise you would have to have them shipped to an ffl when they come back from being repaired at an out of state 'smith. here is what I found over on the high road. Here's a clipping from the ATF's FAQ...- hickman

anyone hunt with an AR?
22 cal centerfire is the minimum round legal in Louisiana, if it were me, using an AR, I'd buy some 77 gr Black Hills hollowpoint ammo and use it (actually, I'd roll my own, 'cause I reload). As far as the mag issue goes, I BELIEVE that you would have to use a 5 rd mag, easiest way to do that... -

good hunting rifle?
Spanky, don't get a 710, they are basically a disposable rifle, not worth the pricetag. 700 is great if you like bolt guns, the Savage model 10's are one of the most accurate out of the box rifles out there under $1k. I don't have any knowlege on the 7400's so no judgement there.
