I disassembled and cleaned my Ed Brown 1911. Trying to get it back together without creating an idiot scratch putting the take down pin in. It goes in lacking around 1/16 inch to completely set. I have tried numerous times all ending in failure. These pistols are known for tight tolerances. Any ideas?

Use a metal pick or small flat head to press the pin in on the frame from the top as you slide the take down pin back in… as long as it’s lined up correct don’t be afraid to give it a little wack with the plastic end of a screw driver

Use it from the top to push detent in and should go in a lot easier

Most higher $ 1911’s have a beveled edge, to assist, just line it all up don’t push it up for idiot mark, like it all up straight over install hole and give it a few light taps while holding it firmly from moving up and down

Have you tried with the gun on your work bench? Get it lined up where it needs to be and when you get to the last bit, lay it down. You can apply a bit more pressure now with the gun on the bench. If every thing is lined up right, you shouldn't need any tools or punches, but if tempted, use non-marring tools.

As mentioned. Kyber Pass Tactical on Airline, close to where the Ford dealership used to be...or close to Black Bayou Ext.

I forgot I had taken these pics, but here is a mod some makers will do to a slide stop. The one marked DIY is one I did for personal use, the one labled Cabot is one of their slide stops, and the one I labeled internet grab----- well, it's an internet grab.
