I can say I’m all for this!! This never should have been required… it’s just another money grab!!!

This ain’t a guaranteed income for state police… I don’t see why it had to go through to see if State Police can get money from somewhere else before they get rid of this… your job don’t wait till you get another job to lay you off or fire you or cut your pay lol…

I believe there is a place for ensuring unsafe vehicle are kept off the road. But I do agree the brake tags have turned into a racket. The fact they are looking at alternate funding before ending the program certainly suggests the money generated is a factor for why the program has continued.

Yeah, Lets double the auto insurance per year vs a 12.50 sticker.
Be care what you ask for boys.

"Bagley also says officers can still write tickets if a car on the road is visibly unsafe. 'State police, and local police have the authority anytime to stop and check for those kind of things if they see something wrong with your car,' Bagley said."

Without inspection stickers to show a car is safe, the police may have a little more leeway in pulling over a car to check for road worthiness.

A long time ago before the interstates were completed in Alabama, I was driving on the two lane highway that was the only way to get across Al. to Ga. I saw a car that was just the bottom pan of a VW bug with what looked like tractor lights added front and rear. The driver was sitting in a wooden kitchen chair just sitting behind the wheel, there were no other seats. It had a tag and was completely legal. That was before cell phones, I wish that I had a picture of it.

A vehicle inspection only assures that a vehicle is safely functioning at the moment the sticker goes on the windshield. The next day it could be unsafe in some way. Vehicles malfunction all the time. Inspections achieve little meaningful long term public safety. Anyone who is paying attention while out and about on our highways can easily see multiple vehicles on the road that are unsafe. How can that happen if inspections really achieve their stated purpose? I'd be fine with inspections being eliminated

You're making a valid argument for monthly inspections.

A better argument for getting rid of the inspections would be to look at the overwhelming majority of cars as opposed to pointing out the small amount of unlikely occurrences. Almost every vehicle goes year after year without failing an inspection.

I've lived in a couple/few states without "Inspection Stickers", and the vehicles were really no worse than anything I've seen here or really even in California.

Landry is a Republican, not Libertarian, so the offset will be more flexible discretion by Law Enforcement. This is not really good for liberty in that sense, but it is good for the free market. This will allow more flexibility in the operation of titled/insurable vehicles.

We need to get Japanese Kei cars & Mahindra/other foreign vehicles road-legal here, would be great to have the only State that allowed it but that's just a fantasy. They are the ultimate commuter cars.
