    Opinions welcome.

I just bought a 1982 colt govt series 70. Some one built up trigger guard and put a texture on it to wrap an off hand finger around. I'll add pics later.

Is this something people like or was it a fad or some crazy guy? Whoever did it did good work.

So keep it, trade it, or file it down and buff to original?

I hate when people do that. Like the stippling jobs I see sometimes...UGH!!HORRIBLE!!!
Someone posted a Glock that had dragon scale stippling. Made me want to kick puppies and kittens.

That being said, I'd like to see it as well. :P

Back in the early 1980's, when IPSC was popular it was not unusual for people to square up or add to 1911 trigger guards. You are correct in that it was done to give a better grip for the off hand index finger. Ifirc most of the competition guns at that time had that feature. Pictures would probably make that clear. You are correct. It was a fad that, IMO, has fortunately passed as better pistol techniques have been developed over the last 30 years.

Well they did a good job, better then I believe I am capable of undoing. Personally I would try to sell it as is or trade it off in another direction. Unless you really like to tinker then you have a nice little project on your hands.

i shot it once so far. Someone did a real nice job on the trigger, parkarized the top of the slide, put a (wilson combat?) flat diamond main spring housing, extended slide stop, extended mag release, and nice grips.

I am nervous about taking the trigger guard down.

All that and you're griping about the trigger guard. Live with it.
