    75 A-max (.435 BC 2900FPS) or the SMK 80's (.420 BC FPS 2800)

Will I have to step to a 90?

Run it on a program. What are you going to shoot it in? A 20" barrel makes it pretty tough. You may look at the 80 JLK. You can push it faster than the 80 Sierra and it has a better BC. Try some N540 or N550 powder. Don't even waste your time on the 90s unless you have a 1:6.5 twist barrel and a long chamber.

Bob Jenkins shoots the JLK 80 to good effect. I used to shoot the JLK 90 which has a .580 BC if I recall correctly. I could get 2725 fps out of a service rifle barrel so the thing held the wind really well.

Because of its bearing surface (very short), the JLK 80 VLD can be driven at 2800+ fps out of a service rifle barrel. That is plenty of velocity for 1000 yards.

When I switched back to Sierra 80s, I began picking up leg points and went distinguished. They may not be the fastest or the most ballistically efficient, but they are dependably accurate.

If I were going to shoot 1000 yards with a service rifle, I would set up an upper specifically for that purpose with a 1:6.5" Pac Nor or Krieger barrel and a Holliger chamber (Wylde with a long throat). I would also use molyed 90 gr JLKs over N550. If I were going to do it on a lark with my current equipment, I would use the 80 JLK over N540.

    Not mine.

I think the answer I got was "Not very many". If I remember right the hot load was around 3850 or something, but it was reduced substantially to like 3400 or so. Main duty as an Antelpe gun. Still, fun what can be done if you dont mind going through barrels.

    Pardon the thread drift.
