The range is similar to something Shurburne. Free to shoot, open to the public, no range master, etc.

A couple of months before this another shooter's gun was stolen.
He went to check his targets downrange ,300 yards, and came back to the shooting bench to find his Remington .308 bolt action gone.
His Remington was found in the suspected killer's storage unit.

    Wild ****.:eek3:
Autopsy results released in rifle range shooting

The Cumberland County Coroner performed an autopsy Thursday, on 42 year old todd Getgen of Enola.
The coroner says that he died from multiple gunshot wounds, but they won't say where he was shot.

The Cumberland County District Attorney says that Todd Getgen was a firearms enthusiast. That was his hobby. He just purchased and was licensed for a custom made semi-automatic with a silencer.
The D.A. says someone shot him from a distance and took off with his rifle.I
It happened Wednesday in broad daylight at a public shooting range on State Game land in North Middleton Township, Cumberland County.
Getgen's body was found there around two Wednesday afternoon, by another person who came there to use the range.
Investigators don't know yet if he was targeted or if this was random.

" I don't want to speculate on that at this point its too early. What we know is he was shot multiple times. The gun he was using is a serious piece of machinery, expensive, it was gone," said Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed.

In Getgen's Enola neighborhood, his friends still can't believe he was murdered.

" They kind of kept to themselves good people. Just friendly, a nice, good family man," said a neighbor.

Police are still looking for the shooter.
Meantime they're asking firearms dealers to check their inventory to see if they may have a custom built AR-15 type semi-automatic rifle with a Lewis Machine Company model Defender 2000 lower receiver equipped with a 30 HRT upper receiver and a Yankee Hill Machine Company Phantom model 308 caliber silencer

Suspect in shooting death of Enola lawyer was arming rebel group, district attorney says

The man charged in the death of an Enola lawyer told police he had been stealing guns for an unidentified organization in an effort to overthrow the U.S. government, according to the Cumberland County district attorney.

Raymond Franklin Peake, 64, of Hampden Township, refused to name the group but said he would kill to defend his country, authorities said.

North Middleton Township police arrested Peake on charges of homicide, robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy in the July 21 killing of Todd Getgen, 42, at a Pennsylvania Game Commission shooting range in the township.

Peake told police that he found Getgen dead at the rifle range and then took his rifle, authorities said.

Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed said Sunday that he had no additional information on Peake’s possible involvement with any attempt to overthrow the government. Freed said that Peake remained in Cumberland County Prison on Sunday night.

One story says he was a prison guard at Camp Hill State Prison up there.

Maybe writing these militia types off as kooks was being overly generous.

Probably his own made up group, or maybe he was thinking of recruiting.

    And agree with JR1572's post.

We shoot at some remote unmanaged ranges in Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana (Mid-week) when the range is deserted, one or more of us will have our carry pistols "cocked and locked" on us. And always keep an eye on the bench areas. If we go much farer than 100 yds one of us will sling at least a carbine. I wouldn't be so paranoid if everybody wasn't out to get me.:D

This is something you couldn't get away with at a managed range, but then again, you probably wouldn't have too with a large group around.
