Hello all, I bought a AR15 from a officer and built a mini sass platform, Now, the only thing is the barrel on this rifle. It is a 16 " fluted and not a stamp to be found, I took it to custom gun works in Lafayette and asked if they knew anything about the barrel ( answer no ) the officer told me it was a Wilson .

I have shot 5.56 through it but just dont feel comfortable with no markings on this barrel

    Any suggestions

    Tux

    You have two choices -

    1) Pay $2-400 for a new barrel and installation

    2) Pay $0 and shoot your gun until the barrel needs to be replaced.

The few AR barrels I've seen chambered in .223 were match grade barrels...

Why does it matter if there are any markings, if it groups great at 100, 200, so on, and the chamber and rifling appear to be in good serviceable shape, heck who cares. Very few are marked these days, sounds like you probably did OK

I guess what im saying im in fear of shooting the 5.56 nato round in this rifle if its a 223 barrel
    that's my concern.
I don't want to picking metal out of me or worse,
and I have a BUNCH of nato ammo that I want to plink with
I've probably run only 60 rounds or so of nato the rest has been 223 match stuff

    GRRR aggravating, lol
I guess if it don't say 5:56 its not, ?

Hmmm, excellent idea, I didn't think of that, that what I"ll do guys,
and no I never seen any stress on the LC brass as this is the brass I reload with.

    Thanks all

I think its BS that no time is taken to make a barrel.
