I stopped at Sportsman's Warehouse in Slidell this afternoon while passing through. I had extremely low expectations on ammunition, but there is enough stuff in the store that I usually find deals on non-firearm related items anyway. I walked to the aisle where pistol ammunition and rifle ammunition is located and was pleasantly surprised. About 3/4 down the length of the aisle was still at about 80% capacity. However, I noticed that all pistol ammunition was non-existent.
Notable calibers that were out of stock:
All pistol caliber ammunition
.22 Long Rifle
.223 Remington
5.56x45mm
Most .224 Valkyrie (which I assume some people grabbed by mistake)
12 Gauge Buckshot
12 Gauge Slugs (with the exception of some "RIO" slugs and 3 boxes of Hornady SST)
There was an abundant supply of everything you would fire from a bolt action rifle or duck gun. At least 1000 boxes of various 12 ga waterfowl and turkey loads. There were many boxes of 6mm, 7mm, and .30 cal variants. There was also a 10% sale on most of it. There was ONE (1) box of .223 in the entire building. It was some sort of chrome plated super duper defense gimmicky nonsense for 30 something dollars.
So I'm happy to see people are buying practical ammunition for their firearms and that this isn't just some "buy everything" panic.
