Anyone own a XD9 Tactical and XDM 9mm. Choosing one for USPSA/IDPA

I'm debating on which one to buy. I will start shooting USPSA, IDPA, 3 gun, ect.

Does anyone own both of these guns? Opinions?

I can use my mags from my XDSC if I choose the tactical. But the M has the match barrel and better trigger. I'll need all the help I can get shooting.

I can get the tactical XD for $500 after FFL and the XDM for $605. Is the M worth the extra $100?

From my understanding both guns will be in the same class in shooting competition. Is this correct?

Anyone know if SA will do their extra mag promo this winter?

Anyone know of a place thats selling XD cheaper than Buds? The Tatical is going for $479 shipped while the XDM is $588

I have owned both and if buying new I would get the M model. That would be the case if I could not find a Glock. Buds prices are competitive.

Other than the mag compatibility concern, I'd go for the M hands down.

Production legal...have about 2000 rounds through it (mostly cheap ammo) without a single issue/hiccup/hangup/burp/failure to anything.

Also, I recommend the Blade-Tech Competition Pack Brownell's sells. $60 for a quality holster and mag pouch rig is unbeatable.

According to Scott Springer it is, because it was a factory option or something along those lines. He's an avid competition shooter, so I would assume he knows. I could imagine having to argue about it to the officials though.

Not like it *really* matters to me, since I've yet to have the time to actually make it to a match.

That sounds like it. The release is the same diameter, only extended about 1/8". IIRC, Springer actually supplies them to the Springfield custom shop so he can sell them as a OEM part.

If available as a factory option on other models, Scott would be correct. Perfectly legal. Just like you can switch the extended mag release that comes on the G34 to the G17.

If it's illegal, I'd care even at a local match and point it out as soon as I saw it as a favor to the competitor (if it was a minor part = no big competitive advantage). I'd expect to see it changed before the next match. Rules don't bend, they just break. Not doing a competitor a favor to let them think he's in compliance.

No one wants to be bumped out of Production into Open for a $5 part. But that's the only option according to the rulebook for equipment that doesn't meet the regs.

Whether it's a local match or the area championship, everyone has the right to expect that they and everyone else is playing by the rules.
