I am a novice gun owner. I have purchased my first AR 15. I purchased a Rock River Coyote with a 16" barrel. Does the barrel have to be broke in and if so how? Also in cleaning the gun. I am being told that I need to pay close attention to the locking lugs. The problem is I have not been able to find out what the locking lugs are or where to find them. All help apperciated.

When you pull out your bolt carrier group, there are lugs around the circumference of the bolt face. When the bolt carrier group is closed, those lugs go through the barrel extension, and rotate and everything is then locked in place. There is a star shaped cleaning patch/swab that is designed to clean the area behind those locking lugs on t he barrel extension.

I wouldnt worry about breaking in the barrel, just shoot/enjoy/clean/repeat
