    I hate to be a killjoy but .22 short is one of the MOST inherently accurate cartridges out there. They use it for Olympic competition for a very good reason. Plus buy one of those Olympic style semi auto's if pure accuracy is your thing.

    none of the pistols I own have a barrel more then 3" ,so accuracy past maybe 15 feet isnt of interest to me(but fun to try from time to time) I have 9mm and 38. and there both basically identical at such short distances.

    Well... there are some VERY accurate guns built to shoot .22 short. Those same types of guns are also often available in .22LR and .32 s&w long.
    If you're interested in true intrinsic accuracy take a look at what some the benchrest guys are doing. There's a .22LR division if you're into small bore. 6mm PPC is one of the more common full sized rifle rounds. Accuracy in benchrest competitions is often measured in hundreths of an inch at 100 yards. Groups of .20" (1/5th of an inch!) are not uncommon at the higher levels. Unfortunately guns to compete at that level usually cost $5K and up...
