I'm not a professional gunsmith and have no intention of becoming one. That said, I would like to have a decent set of specialty tools to work on AR-15 rifles in a casual capacity.

I have a torque wrench, punches, a POS castle nut wrench and a workshop full of conventional tools. I'd like to add an Armorer's tool and vise blocks. Can y'all give me tips on which tools/brands I should be looking at? Medium duty is fine.

    Thanks!

I use the DPMS AR tool and the promag blocks. Neither break the bank and they work well. Steer clear from the really cheap armorer's tools because they are not very hard and the barrel nut wrench will start to deform. I have also used woods blocks in a pinch and it worked fine.

I am using the dpms block for the uppers. It will give a little if the barrel nut is really tight. Overall a good vise.
I dont know the brand for my lowers. It is plastic and looks like a mag. It works great. I have heavy duty armorer wrenches in stock. These are the best that i have found. Really heavy duty and should not break. I have 3 of the cheap broken ones hanging on the wall. These run $50.00 if you are interested.
