If you think the 7.62x39 is good in a 10.5 barrel, you should check out the 9x39. It is a thumper at close range.i have a 10.5" 7.62x39 upper and never had an issue... cheap ammo even with hornady sst's, but have killed a few hogs with the cheap wolf soft points... I have had a 6.8spc and its great but at over $2 a round ill choose somthing else ....
get a good bcg and good mags and it will run like a champ
But are these bullets designed for hunting?1st vote for 458 SOCOM, what other caliber let’s you shoot 250-600 grain bullets. But you better be a reloader.
I would expect it to expand a little more than .80 not that that’s bad but just comparing it to .45acp hst expands slightly more than .80 and some rounds like the Winchester t series I’ve seen expand out to 1.00I put together an AA 50 Beowulf upper like 2 months ago, 12.5" barrel. For my SBR lower. NASTY
factory ammo from 200 gr max expansion round, to 400 gr soft point. The 200 gr expands to .80" in flesh.
yeah but 50 Beo has about 2500 lbs ft of energy leaving the muzzle versus 45 acp @ 450 lbs ft. You could grizzly or brown bear hunt with 50 Beo and the right bullet choice. And 50 Beo ammo is WAY cheaper than 458 socom per round. The only thing lacking with 50 Beo is a commercially sold subsonic round, if you want to suppress it. Plus its just bad azz, the largest diameter round sold in the AR platform. Big nasty!I would expect it to expand a little more than .80 not that that’s bad but just comparing it to .45acp hst expands slightly more than .80 and some rounds like the Winchester t series I’ve seen expand out to 1.00

Post a link to proof of a 45 acp projectile reliably expanding to 1". Maybe a YT video, terminal performance in gelatin. Lets see it.
OP, yes 350 Legend or 6.8 SPC are excellent deer calibers in the AR platform. I'd favor the 6.8 SPC for its superior longer range performance/ballistics (> 150 yards) than 350 Legend. 350 Legend = straight wall cartridge, like a 357 Magnum on steroids.
6.8 SPC = bottleneck, high pressure cartridge.
Here ya go. See it with your own eyes.
Depends on his goal and purpose. I'm on my 3rd 50 Beo firearm/upper in 15 years. Its a very hard hitting round inside of 200 yards (projectile starts dropping pretty hard @ 150/200 yards). Just depends how good a marksman you really are.Question for the BayouShooter AR afficianodos: I'm an old geezer with NO experience in those other calibers using the AR platform, but a younger friend tells me his heart is set on getting himself an AR in the .50 Beowulf caliber. Good choice, or a bad choice? Should he change his mind?
>.458 SOCOM, There even .223 Mag compatible. $40 per box at Freedom Munitions.I am wanting to put an AR 15 together that will double as a hunting rifle it will be used Deer size game and shooting 200 yards or less. What caliber would you recommend I know an AR 10 would be better but with the 15 platform I will be able to change the upper and shoot other calibers. Thanks in Advance

It really is crazy. Just look at 9mm alone and how far it’s come. Personally I carry HST’s but the Winchester t series is no slouch and I would also carry it. 1” is crazy expansion and it still averages 14” of penetration.Awesome, thx. Let me tell you handgun projectile terminal performance has increased 200% in the last 10 years. CAD aided R&D. Now I know which round I need to purchase for my new FM Products 45 acp 8" barreled "pistol".
