So we had a medium sized Oak snap at about 30' off the ground yesterday evening during a micro-burst or something. It knocked down a section of my fence but no real damage incurred. It's BIG brother is looming closer to our house and my neighbor and I thought it prudent to go ahead and have it taken out.

It is about 70' - 90' tall and about 12' - 14' in diameter at the base. I did not see any advertisers on here but thought someone might know someone insured that does this. Shopping for a deal!

I would have done it myself about 10 years and 30lbs ago but it is better left to the professionals in my current state of fat and happy!:mamoru:

I used Bofinger's http://www.bofingerstreeservice.com/ on two really large trees in my yard. One of them was between the house and detached garage and had to be removed one piece at a time with a crane. The guys were pros and minimized damage to the yard both times and cleaned up really well. I've only used one other tree service, but from the looks of some of the yahoos driving around with "tree service" slapped on their trucks since the hurricanes, I'd definitely look into it a little. Good luck.

I used Arbor Pro to get rid of my monsters and they did a fantastic job. It's been a number of years ago and don't know if they still do trees, but you could try their number 273-1836.

Have you considered calling LSU to see if they would want to transplant it to the campus, most likely to replace the one by the Natatorium?

I meant 14 feet in circumference. 14' Diameter would be huge!

That sounds more realistic. That's also exactly what my big red oak was; I had to measure it for State Farm. The agent told me it was worth $27,300 but they had a cap of $2,500 for trees and my deductible is $2,000. The bat rastards clipped me for the deductible on EACH tree, so I got a whopping $1,000!
