I like Bass Tracker's or the Express hull around the 17' range with anything from a Yamaha 90 to 115, 4 stroke's,
Just can no longer get into a 2 stroke due to fuel economy issues.

17ftx46” aluminum custom skiff with a 25hp gatortal (now a longtail)
Has been set aside for my boys

17ftx48 Charles lenord w/60hp 2stroke
Is my hoop net and utility heavy load boat

18ft express bayou w/40 hp gatortail
River runner and duck hunting rig, also got it set up with removabke trolling motor

I really like the Yamaha 4 strokes.
Several years ago we pulled the 150's 2 strokes off the company boats.
Made a world of difference going from a 2 stroke to the 4 stroke!

Ahh that was about an average day, when the cats are running in the amite, then hoop nets provide!!! lol

Best I have ever done is 2-55 gallon drums and about 60 in the bottom of the boat

in the market for one now. would really like a 20ft express with 115-150 but they have gotten proud of them and one isn't in wifes budget this year... she really wants a pontoon boat. we are compromising and looking at fish and ski's that are more fish than ski. going to run a 20ft nitro fish and ski tomorrow. if it peforms as expected it should come home behind the truck. we just closed on a lot on the amite that i'm working on getting setup with power, water and sewer to put the camper on. has a small dock and a private launch so hope to be on the water soon.

Side question, What do you bait a minnow trap with (freshwater) Potted meat or something else?

I'm hoping to buy a nice little comfortable entry-level bay boat or pontoon, to take the future wife and dog out on, sometime in the next year or two.

Not exactly minnows but we have a few bait fish traps at Toledo Bend and use a block of white styrofoam. Catch a ton of baitfish, like little sun perch.

No kidding man, You need to stop by one day when we both are up there.
I'm putting together something in the Lanan bay area.

Potato chips works. Had really good luck with the small sized Fritos.

Tried that years ago and had zero luck. Set nets and pillow traps around Flat Lake \ Lake Martin--nothing. Rode up to the Petit Amite with my set nets--same result.

For shiners we used cottonseed cake, hard to get locally and nowadays expensive. Hard to beat old dried bread like rolls with hard crust.

Vince at port Vincent hardware gets Cotton seed sometimes, that’s usually what I used for my hoop nets; that or soybean chips
