I just got notification from Midway USA that a backorder that I placed over a year ago 11/2013 has been cancelled and stated "not been able to get the following product from the vendor" -- Did Winchester stop production of their M-22 Ammunition 22 (Long Rifle 40 Grain Black Plated Lead Round Nose)???

That's entirely possible. But more likely just Midway being cut off from that product indefinitely, perhaps by their own decision. I've had good success with the back order process and a little luck with the product notification with Midway (just received 2 bricks of American eagle .22 Friday) but I've never had them tell me that my back order was cancelled. Keep signing up for back order ammo if it ever actually says back order ok, but you may have better luck using the "notify me" feature.

I figured as much -- I made my order (backorder OK) and soon afterwards Winchester has a huge recall on their M-22 stuff because of double powder charges.

    oh snap!
Not good. But dang. I wonder how they could get a double charge in that little case. I wouldn't think it could hold more than 5-6 grains of powder.

I had a back order for some Federal with Midway that was auto cancelled last month. If you read their fine print, all back orders are cancelled after one year from the order date.
