I have a friend who is seeking his first CC handgun. He is asking about a Canik TP9. I have never heard of it and have no idea about it's quality and reliability. My friend seems to be hung up on the price and may buy it regardless. But I asked him to wait and let me inquire about it here. So has anyone purchased or handled one of these and what is the general opinion on this thing. I tried to talk him into spending a few more bucks and buying something with a proven track record but he is a little stubborn.

So what's the scoop on the Canik TP9?

I'd probably go with that over a Bersa, but I wouldn't be so tight on something I'm getting to be my primary personal defense weapon. $100 more (even less if you catch a good sale) can get you something with an established reputation. Personally, I'd save for another week or two.

Sent from my truck doing 85 down the interstate.

Nutnfancy gave it glowing reviews for a cheap pistol also, IIRC. I've yet to see one though.

Probably not a bad deal for a closet gun that shoots a box every few years. I don't know that I would pick this over a sigma or even a taurus though. Getting parts later could be a problem.
