I think the point is if the US went to a cashless system, the value of the dollar could drop here, making the dollar much less useful. Its value would change based on supply and demand rather than stay relatively stable. You can sell your lawn mower for $60 cash but it you didn’t know if you could spend the $60, is that something you would want to do? If you can’t spend the cash, you’d have pretty much given the lawn mower away.

There will never be a totally cashless society in the US in our lifetime. Just isn't gonna happen. Like someone else mentioned earlier there are quite a few americans who don't even have a checking account, much less a credit card. They live in cash, or money orders. People who are financially irresponsible, owe debts or judgements, or just cannot manage their finances. People who if they did have a bank account, it would be seized or garnished.
I bet prob 5% of the US adults do not have a bank account right now. Much less a CC or debit card. Cash only.
