    Im trying to decide if I should get a CCP or not. I do a lot of traveling around the south. I have noticed all the states I travel in are constitutional carry. I read a good bit about both. Does anyone know if that means that anyone can carry or just the legal residents can carry in the Southern states? I know CCP you can carry in those states.

    North Dakota is the only permitless carry state that has a resident only provision. You are good to go everywhere else that is permitless carry

    I haven't been able to find out anything definitive about concealed carry on Louisiana WMAs after July 4th....I would ASSUME you'd still need a valid CHP in order to carry there concealed, including when no active hunting season in open where centerfire pistols are allowed on the WMA....

    I think y'all are muddying the waters here for the OP. His question was if he needed a permit to carry in other constitutional carry states in the south. The simple answer to that is "no".
    Then he would need to go to all those states and read their laws.

    There are a few states that have some issues you need to be aware of . Tennessee and Alabama for instance . What states are you concerned with ?

    Carrying a concealed handgun for self defense is not the same as hunting with it. Unless WMA are on the list of prohibited places I would think you’re fine.

    You may be able to constitutional carry, but a a licensed permit allows you to carry in a lot more locations and is not an open carry.

    for instance in my neighborhood constitutional carry is not allowed, the city has wall papered the area as gun free zones. With a permit and concealed I am allowed.

    I have several friends that think they can carry anywhere they want now.

    Multiply that by all the areas you travel, get the permit, it’s worth it.

    @lord labor this is a good place to start that I have used several times. The site also has links directly to each individual state's pertinent laws so you can easily find them read about them more in depth.

    Are those local ordinances going to be able to stand as valid and enforceable in view of SB194 ?
    I am talking about the areas with signs listed. Do you are anyone else here want to spend time and energy trying to prove you can or can’t carry?

    With a CWP I am covered, without it, maybe or maybe not.

    I would say in New Orleans with their attitude towards firearms it’s a battle.

    I'm going to regret getting into this... everyone wants to argue and I ain't about that.

    It is a federal felony to drive within 1000ft of school property without either a state issued permit or having the firearm unloaded and locked away.

    Just because they aren't really looking doesn't make it legal, and just because it is likely unconstitutional if challenged in the Supreme Court doesn't make it legal, either. (you can be the one who spends millions getting that adjudicated, if you want)

    [18 U.S.C. § 922(q)(2)(A)] does not apply to the possession of a firearm—

    (i) on private property not part of school grounds;

    (ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;

    (iii) that is—

    (I) not loaded; and

    (II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle;

    This was what I was saying as well.
