Ceiling fan in bedroom quit working. Not mine but a friends fan. Separate switches for fan and light. Turned on light and then the light went out and now the fan nor light will work. The breaker is not tripped. Any ideas on what to check first, second, so on? Thanks

Most fans now are electronically controlled, if that little control box died the fan is trash. Easiest thing to do is drop the canopy and check for voltage at the black and red wires.

With switch on, check voltage across white (neutral) to black should be 120VAC then from white to red should be 120VAC if switch is on.

If no voltage, switch, if voltage, fan.

Like XD said, check for voltage at the ceiling box (probably fine). Then pull the light kit off and check for voltage at the connector plug from the fan. If it is an older fan, your wire connectors might have wiggled loose, but that is a stretch.
