"Though FBI background checks are required for commercial sales, the proposal being considered would expand them to gun shows and internet sales, but they would not require checks for other private transactions, according to multiple sources familiar with the talks."

What the hell? So what's gonna change from what is already in place.
If I buy a gun from a gun show or on gun broker = background check.

Buy a gun from John Doe = no background check.

That's exactly how it is now. Politicians really are stupid to the nth degree.

    From the WAFB article:
Currently, the background check system covers sales only by licensed gun dealers. The compromise would apply the system to all commercial sales, such as transactions at gun shows and online. The sales would have to be channeled through licensed firearms dealers, who would have to keep records of the transactions.

Private transactions that are not for profit, such as those between relatives, would be exempt from background checks.

Under current law it is unlawful for a person who is not an FFL holder to buy and sell guns strictly for profit correct? So this makes it to where you have to have a background check from FFL holders, whether online, in the store, or at a gun show. Maybe they will name this bill the Redundant Background Check Bill instead of Universal Background Check.
