This Colt 1911 Government model is the “XS” versus their “XSE” models. The two easiest ways to tell the difference between the two is the trigger: 2 kidney shaped holes vs the 3 round holes in the XSE’s; and the rear sights of the first iteration of the XSE with its old style 3-dot blade sight.

In 1996, Kimber came out with their 1911’s with features Colt did not offer. Colts’ sales suffered. Colt's response was to quietly replace their Enhanced line in 1998 with the new XS series, which added a proper beavertail grip safety, proprietary wedge-style rear sight (by C-More Corp.), extended thumb safety and a return to the round-topped slide (but still with the Gold Cup-style barrel and angled slide serrations). The XS was manufactured to higher tolerances than its predecessors or the XSE successors. And due to its very short production life, the XS has become somewhat of a Colt Collector item of interest.

In 2000 the XS series was replaced with the XSE line, which dropped the beavertail and wedge sight and replaced them with the standard Colt "duckbill" safety and plain-Jane 3-dot blade rear sight. Finally, by 2010 the XSE line reached its current form with proper Novak-style front and rear sights, a true S&A style beavertail safety, alloy 3-hole trigger, full-length guide rod, ambidextrous safeties and checkered wood grips which are now standard equipment.”

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are very handsome original two-piece double diamond wood. As the photos will demonstrate, the grips have no notable wear or damage, the checkering is sharp with no compressions. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition. The pistol has never been holstered, never served as a car gun; rather spent most of its years at my bedside table or in my safe.
    Type of Finish: Brushed Stainless
    Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98+% of its metal finish. While there is no thinning, there are a few small surface scratches on the polished flats, a small rub on the brushed matte round underside, both noticeable only upon close inspection with reflecting lighting. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine Plus to Excellent condition Even at 22 years old, the pistol’s round count is less than 300 rounds.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in its blue plastic Colt box with serial matching label, its owner’s manual, its original 8-round Colt magazine plus 3 additional new unused Colt 8 round mags pictured.
