Was shooting one of these today. Very nice pistol all around. Anyone have any experience with this particular gun.

I owned a few at one time, down to one now. Factory ammo was never loaded to it's potential. Early Colts headspaced off the rim of the case and were not especially accurate. Newer ones headspace off the case mouth and can be quite accurate.
The IPSC guys really get those 115 and 125 gr bullets screaming, makes for a very flat shooting (and very loud) gun.

As they all share the same breech face, (talking 1911 here) it is fairly easy to convert a super to 9mm and vice versa. You can also do a 9x23 which a pretty stout cartridge that never quite caught on.

When I was shooting NRA Action Pistol back in the 90's, that gun was the craze. I went from my stock Sig to a Smith model 686 for open class. Most everyone else was shooting the 38 super.

You could take a Colt in .38 super with a barricade shroud and then put a Ron Powers mover base on it and shoot until you are tired.
