It's right about accessories costing more than the rifle, I'm building my first AR now and I was shocked the damn optics are going to cost more than the piston upper.

Just out of curiosity, what upper are you looking at?

You don't NEED to spend $800 on an optic. A Millett DMS-1 will do everything an Acog will do for 1/4 the price; it just won't be nearly as taticool.

I am going with the POF 9.25 inch upper. NFA paperwork is pending.

I agree on the optics. I will probably just stick with a good set of iron sights. Esp. for an upper that short its only good for 50 yards or so anyway.
