I wrote my respective congresspeople in support of the HPA.
Here is his not so well thought out response:

    Dear Mr.XXXX,
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 3799, the Hearing Protection Act. I appreciate hearing your views on this legislation.
The Hearing Protection Act would rescind a $200 tax on firearm silencers and would eliminate any restrictions on possession of silencers under the National Firearms Act. It would also remove the rights of states to tax and control the use and sale of silencers locally. H.R. 3799 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, where it awaits further action.
I am a firm believer in the 2nd amendment, but I do not believe that the 2nd amendment prevents the legislative branch from acting to minimize the frequent and widespread violence in our nation. I am not, nor have I ever been in favor of taking guns away from law-abiding adults, but I do have grave concerns about the usefulness of high capacity magazines and certain military style weapons. Your point that the effects of responsible use of suppressors in hunting and sporting applications are benign is valid; my concerns are that making suppressors even easier to obtain would lead them into the hands of those who would use firearms for other purposes.
Nothing we do will eliminate violence or bring back the many lives we have lost. But I feel deeply that we must discuss possible policies that would improve the current state of affairs to make progress in this area. These issues are terribly complex and elicit great passion on every side of the argument. This will be robust and sensitive debate and I welcome the opportunity to hear from each of my constituents regarding this very important conversation.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts and I invite you to stay connected with me through my e-newsletter. You can sign-up on my website at http://richmond.house.gov. Sincerely,

    Cedric L. Richmond
    Member of Congress

Should I reply, or am I just pissing into the wind? I think someone ought to take this cat to the range and show him what a suppressed 5.56 actually sounds like. It is hard to regulate what you don't understand. <see 'Legitimate Rape' and the 'shoulder thingy that goes up'>

I don't care if the ATF wants to regulate them, I just don't want to pay that stupid $200 tax every time I want a toy.

One of my favorite things to do when reading the Advocate is to go to the section that is titled; How Your Representatives Voted.

This dude is like the only (D) from Louisiana in Congress! And you can bet, when the (R)'s vote "Y", Richmond is a guaranteed "N" and vice versa! In fact one of the only times I ever saw him vote similarly to the (R)'s is when they were passing a spending Bill! They all agree on that! Particularly when they can all get something out of it!

And I love how these ideologically and agenda driven phony democrats start off all of their anti-gun BS with, "Look, I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but........"

Now, keep in mind that this above is the new tactic by these calculating phonies. They purposely want the conversation to include their devotion to the Constitution before they have to dissect parts of it for your own good!

Do any of you really believe this guy knows ANYTHING about the 2nd Amendment other than his party is supposed to be against it?

Thanks for your effort to write him.. I am one to get easily frustrated at the rhetoric they repeat from buzz words they hear..
If we listed all of the things the bad guys do against the laws already in place, it leaves zero room for improvement without restricting me..

F-in A, Cotton. The tax is stupid and the wait is infuriating.

And I also saw that "but". It's funny to me now. If someone starts out with "I am a firm believer in the 2nd amendment, but ", you know:
    A) They in no way respect the RKBA and
    B) They are about to say something stupid.

Sound just like "I'm not a racist, but here's some really racist stuff I believe"

I want you guys to watch what I am talking about. It's all scripted! Before, if you were a phony democrat and just came out and supported more gun restrictions, bans, etc.; you were beaten back by pro-2nd folks who kept throwing the example out; "How can you be for 'Freedom of Speech" but want to take away people's "Rights to bear arms?" The pick and choose Rights conundrum if you will.

Now, your marching orders are to say you DO believe in the 2nd Amendment as you express how difficult it is for you (personally), to want to have to restrict or constrain a Right, but when it's in the name of public safety, etc. This is the phony's way of getting more perimeter support from citizens that may be ignorant of guns and firearms ownership; but support the Constitution. You will see a lot more of it!

Want to see how it sounds from a Socialist? "Look, I believe in capitalism too, but the wealthiest people are rigging the system and we have to make it more fair for ALL the people."
Here's how Planned Parenthood would say it: "Look, we believe that ALL life is precious, but woman should have the Right to choose what happens to their bodies."
From religion haters: "Look, we too believe in a person's Right to practice ANY religion or faith, but publically owned schools and government lands and buildings should not be used as a vehicle to promote those views."
The No-Sovereign borders bunch? "We believe in borders, but we need immigration reform!"
Excusal for all bad behavior bunch? We believe in enforcing the laws of this country, but incarcerating all of these low level offenders is not the answer."

And on, and on, and on!

Have you heard those before? If you are a dummy, you almost sympathize with them as they are taking your **** away! That's how they will be working the phony playbook now!

Richmond is a fraud. I called him out, with a letter, about the his introduced gun ban. He also introduced a bill at the same time to take away life sentences for drug dealers convicted for such crime. He is a defense attorney away from politics. So I asked him how he felt about taking away my right to protect myself from some of his legal clients that he must have lost the case on. I got no response. Go figure.

There are black voters in New Orleans East who call him "Uncle Tom" and other things that I dare not repeat. These fine folks practice at Jefferson Indoor and St Bernard Indoor.

Read over his response a few times, just to make sure it sounded like as much BS as I thought it did the first time. It's a canned response in which he says nothing and indicates that he will proceed along party lines instead of what his state wants.

To answer the OP, yes, I think you would be pissing in the wind if you attempted to engage him in a meaningful conversation.
