As much as I like Hoppe's number 9 as a cleaning solvent and cologne, all of us have to admit that it's gotten out of sight moneywise. There IS a solution. It's called Ed's Red and you can make it by the gallon for about $15 at your very own maison. Here's the recipe:

1 quart Dextron III or equivalent synthetic motor oil
    1 quart acetone
    1 quart odorless mineral spirits
1 quart high quality filtered kerosene

Put all this in a 1 gallon (well marked) plastic gasoline can, mix it up, keep it away from flames and keep those guns clean.

Works nearly as good without the acetone and a lot less flammable.

I bought a 20 gal parts washer from Harbor Freight.

    12 qts Dexron III
    5 gal. mineral spirits
    5 gal. deodorized kerosene

THE best cosmoline remover ever. Cleaned dozens of Yugo SKS's that I sold at the old shop. Lasts forever.
