Ok.. First off hello to all after knowing about this site for a very long time I finally decided to join up.

I am fixing to pull the trigger on another ak...I am only buying it for one reason and that's because it is a norinco mak 90 in 223/556 and have never owned a ak in this caliber...it has a straight cut receiver not a slant cut and threaded barrel...comes with 5 30 and 3 15 round mags and 200 rounds of ammo...

I have a few questions because I have never owned a chicom ak all of mine ar either russian or romanian. First question is being that it is a straight cut does this mean I can convert it to regular ak furniture? Second question is does this gun also accept galil mags? I've heard some say ya and some say no... Third question is what is this gun worth now a days?

Maybe someone here will know a little more about these guns than me and can help me out. Picture will be attached.

You can use regular furniture but it will require fitting. 5.56 mags for Chinese rifles are specific and Galilee mags will not work.

Fitting meaning a little sanding down on some edges here and there? And the galil mag thing is so conflicted it's a shame.. A guy at work just swore up and down they fit...

I don't know what you are going to pay for it but if I were going to buy a 5.56 ak I would save my money and get an arsenal 106ur.

The MAK is an excellent rifle. I thought you were going to buy it. If you want a 5.56 AK do the trade, but Galil mags will not work with it.

They are a hoot! I have the same Chicom 223 mine is partially for collector purposes. I wouldn't give up my only 7.62 for a chicom 223 unless it was a lower end unit. The Chicom 223 are hard to find and magazines are even harder to find. Depending on condition 700-1200 with one mag, each mag should fetch 50-$100 each depending on forum. I got luck a while back and BJ's found a handfull of Chicom 223 mags in the back and I was able to scoop them up.

Still get that ak clack while running the 223 just little less oomp.

The Norinco .223 mags are not that difficult to locate. The Polytech 223 are rare but with a little work east german AK74 mags can be made to work (the polytech and norinco 223 were not interchangeable). As all Chicom AKs are pre-ban, no threat of the ATF requiring a parts count.

From a quality standpoint, the Chicoms were perhaps the highest ever imported into the US, and closest to the military spec AK (it was a little misunderstanding about a few thousand automatic AKs that got mixed in with their imports that helped seal their permanent ban into the US).

Totally went a different route when I found how hard it is to find mags or atleast how much they cost I told the guy nay on the deal and he offered me an AR a dpms upper with Chrome lined heavy 1/7 barrel on a spikes lower... Think I did good myself woulda been nice to have the 223 ak but another ar never hurts

Most Chicoms were imported Post 89, and all require parts count if you take the original thumbhole stock off or use a hi cap mag. Section 922r applies. Bush 89 import ban.
