Gen 4 has adjustable backstraps, much better mag release, and is slightly softer shooting due to the dual recoil spring assembly (supposedly, I've never noticed much difference). Also comes with three mags instead of two. I much prefer the Gen 4 pistols and the extra mag alone almost offsets the added cost.

In addition, the grip stippling on the Gen4's is so much better. I have 7 Gen4's, 4 of which I use in some form of competition. I have not modified the grip on any of them. On my old Gen2 pistols, I had to add Hogue rubber wrap-arounds on them to have a steady hold under recoil, and that added to the width of the grip. Which reminds me, the Gen4's without any backstrap are slightly smaller than the Gen2/Gen3. My hands fit the Gen4 with no backstrap very well.

I prefer the feel of the Gen 4 grip without a backstrap but the mag release isn't all it's cracked up to be. I was a fan the new mag release myself just casually handling the gun but I recently found out that it's not so great for actually doing a mag change at speed while training or competing. Yeah it's 4 times larger than gen 3 but there's only about the front 1/3 of the button that you press that will eject the mag. Probably will get used to it and it'll be fine but I was surprised the first time or two I pressed the button and nothing happened and I had to move my thumb forward and press again.

I prefer the feel of the Gen4's but the triggers of my Gen3's feel better to me. My last 2 Glock purchases have been Gen3 then I had them stippled.
