Was recently givin a remington 1903 by a friend and am looking for a reputable gunsmith to look at it and determine if its safe to fire. I live in metairie. But will look elsewhere if needed.
Since it is a Remington, at least the receiver is not unsafe. Some of the early Springfield and Rock Island receivers were poorly heat-treated and brittle.
Why would you think it to be unsafe ? Has it been sporterized? If so does it look professional or a hack job?
If it’s in military configuration
Clean and check the bore, then find some surplus ball or commercial 150 gr ammo and go shoot it.
They are pretty tough and anything that would be unsafe would be obvious
It has been sporterized looks in good condition a little rust on the barrell but not alot. Someone told me that there where headspace issues on theese rifles
