Gulf of Mexico, not many details released yet, pilot name is Arthur Oscar Lebron (not confirmed).

Coast Guard is heading that way, they haven't been able to reach him at all, 35 miles out the coast

The helicopter that went down is a Bell 206-L, according to the NTSB; however PHI spokesman Dave Stepanek would only confirm that one of the company's helicopter was in the water.

This was just posted on KATC

    quote:

There is no word yet on where the flight originated, but we do know that a good Samaritan dive team from the vessel Ocean Inspector located the pilot inside the aircraft's cockpit which was fully submerged. The pilot's identity has not yet been released and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Yes nessary,P.H.I. has to make all effort's to recover the craft,From what i could hear on the radio the helo could be seen laying on the bottom...and a Helo was directing the boat to the location...

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't saying it wasn't necessary to send the boat. I was saying the fact that a boat was being sent didn't necessarily mean the helicopter had sunk. My dad went down in the Gulf and survived. his helicopter rolled over but didn't sink. he was rescued by a boat. sounds like this guy wasn't as lucky. since it sank, I wonder if his floats were deployed.

I'm at G.I.37 now for Chevron.
I had head the coast guard saying the search was over on ch 16.
I work nights so missed most of the transactions made.
