    I would agree, most likely a cable box. Looks like it mounted below all the wires on the pole. They usually keep them low and away from the electrical lines above them. Why you want to know? Some evil plan??

    LOl No cable service in this area...Just the box which makes a noise like a fan running inside of it NO lights but looks like it's locked.

    No lines coming into or out of it beside the electricity from the transformer above it!

    Small antenna on top of it..

    No evil plans would just hate to see some of the local kids shoot it down thinking it was a camera???

    Try and get some more photos of it. You have me curious as well now. I know a few people that used to work as linemen that I may be able to ask. The fan would make sense, it would go along with the vent holes in the enclosure.

    It's a remote switch for the power company to turn your power off without leaving their chair.... until your smart meter arrives

    Being the Mayor, you should already know this, Sir! :D

    I agree with it having smething to do with cable. Might want to look into that- they could be holding out on you. :p

    That is an amplifier for cable tv signal. You yourself may not have cable but someone down the line does I promise.

    Down the line? I'm confussed there is NO LINE only lines coming out of this box is a hot wire I imagine and a ground that goes to two wires coming from the transformer. The same two wires coming from the transformer used to go to a Night Lite you can see in the picture but that hasn't been hooked up in 8 years.

    So please explain..

    Any yes being the MAYOR I should know and will before sunset tomorrow even if I have to take it down to examine it:}

    I noticed some like this in my neighborhood.
    file.php

    I've seen one open before and noticed that they hold a battery and other electronics. I suppose the line going in would be for AC power and the battery for backup when power is lost. Most of the ones that I've seen have a meter located below. I would put money on it that it's for either the cable companies or the phone companies that provide DSL service.
